Joseph Muscat still enjoys a 2.9% lead over Simon Busuttil in trust ratings, according to a new survey conducted by Xarabank this week. As it stands, the Labour Party still has a majority of 40.1%. However, the survey also points out that the gap between the two main parties has narrowed to 2.6%. The results were published earlier tonight during Xarabank.
The Xarabank opinion poll was conducted between Monday 8th and Wednesday 10th May 2017, and the conclusions were drawn out of a simple random sample of 633 people who accepted to be interviewed via telephone.
41.6% of the electorate trusts Joseph Muscat, while 38.7% trusts Simon Busuttil to lead the country. A significant 12.7% of the population does not trust either of the two leaders, and 7% don't know who to trust.

When asked how they will vote in the General Election this coming 3rd June, 40.1% of the respondents said that they will vote for the Labour Party, 37.5% said that they will vote for the Nationalist Party, 0.4% said that they will vote for the Democratic Party, 1.1% said that they will vote for Alternattiva Demokratika, 7% said that they will not vote and 13.9% said that they don't know how they're going to vote.
As it stands, compared to the 2013 General Election, the Labour Party still enjoys an absolute majority, but has lost 4.2%. The Nationalist Party has increased by 4.7% since the last General Election, and the gap between the two parties has been reduced to 2.6%.
The shift from the PL voeters to PN (and PD) voters amounts to 5.8%, and the shift from PN to PL amounts to 3.6%. The loss of PL voters to PN is mainly due to the switcher category. In the switcher category, where people voted PL in 2013 and PN in 2008, PL only secured the votes of 31.6%, losing 23.7% to PN and 2.6% to AD. 5.3% of the switchers will not be voting and a significant 36.8% still don't know how they will vote.

ReplyDeleteAn important figure has been left out of the results. What percentage of the respondents have declared themselves to be switchers? The 36.8% ma nafx switchers are the ones most likely to sway either side, but there is nothing to indicate what percentage of the entire voting population they represent.
